EVP, Engineering & Operations
Mr. Torres is the Executive Vice President of Engineering and Operations of Black Canyon Midstream. Charles has more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Engineering for Summit Midstream Partners, LLC where he was responsible for the engineering, design and technical support for existing and newly developed oil, gas and water assets.
Previously, Charles has held various engineering and management positions throughout the Midstream, E&P, Utility, Engineering Services and Fabrication and Construction sectors, and has worked in multiple basins including the Piceance, Denver-Julesburg, Green River, Williston, Utica, and Barnett. Charles began his career as a Project Engineer designing natural gas equipment for a custom shop fabrication company. In 1997, Charles went to work for Public Service Company of Colorado, where he was responsible for the engineering, construction and commissioning of multiple natural gas compressor stations, treating facilities and pipeline capital projects. In 2002, Charles joined ForeRunner Corporation as a Project Engineer, and then moved on to assist in developing a new Engineering & Project Services Division for Mayo Industries, Inc. in 2004. Charles eventually became Director of Engineering & Project Services, where he developed and led a successful team of engineers, designers, project managers, and procurement specialists to provide and support full EPC services with Mayo’s legacy Shop Fabrication and Construction Divisions. In 2007, Charles joined EnCana Oil & Gas and worked extensively with the Jonah Field’s Production & Reservoir Development teams. His responsibilities included managing Jonah’s capital well development program & drilling schedule, managing the engineering, construction & commissioning of a major Cathodic Protection capital program to protect over 1,400 well casings, and evaluating long term regulatory & optimization planning strategies for the production and gathering facilities.
Charles has a BS in Engineering, Mechanical Specialty from Colorado School of Mines and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado.
VP, Land and Legal
Mr. Allen is the Vice President, Land and Legal of Black Canyon Midstream. His experience spans two decades in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the energy industry. Kyle began his career as a landman in east and south Texas during the shale boom and advanced to in-house counsel positions with Suncor Energy Inc. and American Midstream Partners, LP. In that time, he has been instrumental in the planning, permitting and acquisition of more than $50 million of right of way totaling over 300 miles of natural gas and crude oil gathering and transmission pipelines in the Rockies, Texas, the southeast United States and offshore Gulf of Mexico, and the development and construction of over $500 million of midstream infrastructure.
In addition to his extensive experience in land and legal, Kyle is also an alumnus of the inaugural class of EnGen, the Colorado Oil and Gas Association’s leadership development program.
Kyle has a JD from Saint Mary’s University School of Law and BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Trinity University.
EVP, Corporate Development, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary
Mr. Newburn is the Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Black Canyon Midstream. He is a former executive with American Midstream Partners (NYSE: AMID) responsible for >$2 billion in midstream projects throughout Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota and the Gulf of Mexico. Ryan is a Skadden-trained M&A and securities attorney with more than $18 billion in completed M&A transactions, has managed greater than $19 billion in completed public and private, debt and equity raises and possess vast experience with the full life-cycle of a company from initial fundraise through IPO and beyond.
Ryan has a JD from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, an MBA from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, BA’s in Economics and Philosophy and a BS in Agriculture and Resource Economics from the University of Arizona.
EVP, Data & Analytics
Mr. Wieting is the Executive Vice President and a Co-Founder of Black Canyon Midstream. He is a Certified Public Accountant with 10 years of broad financial experience in upstream oil and gas with positions at Bill Barrett Corporation and Triangle Petroleum Corporation.
Jeff possesses expertise in reserve based credit, reservoir economics, production forecasting, cash flow modeling, and financial (including SEC) reporting. He was a key component to the finance team at Triangle Petroleum Corporation that issued the lowest yielding notes of its kind at the time.. He has conducted valuation and purchase price allocations for more than 25 leasehold acquisitions, divestitures and acreage swaps ranging in size up to $100MM. Jeff has also originated and managed effective debt compliance and purchaser credit policies for an enterprise with $600MM+ in debt and $280MM+ in annual revenue
Jeff has a BS in Business Administration, Accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Senior Consultant
Mr. Imbler is a Senior Consultant with Black Canyon Midstream. He has over four decades of executive management and engineering in the oil and gas, water, refining, trading and chemical sectors.
Jim is the former President & Chief Operating Officer of First River Energy and the former Executive Vice President of Crude at High Sierra Energy. From 1989 to 2000, Jim was President of Koch Industries Petroleum Group where he was responsible for managing a multi-billion-dollar global workforce. In addition to his extensive executive experience, Jim currently sits on the Board of Directors of a number of energy and chemical enterprises.
Jim has a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MBA, both from the University of Kansas.
Chairman and CEO
Mr. Themaat is the Chairman & CEO of Black Canyon Midstream (“BCM”). Johan delivers over a decade of executive management, corporate development and investment banking experience primarily in the midstream segment of the energy industry including oil, gas and water logistics operations, marketing, mergers, acquisitions and financings. Prior to leading BCM, Johan was founder and CEO of First River Energy, LLC (“FRE”), a midstream company providing exceptional crude oil gathering and marketing services to independent producers by applying real-time logistics and back-office technologies. Under Johan’s guidance, FRE raised more than $70 million of capital through a coalition of private equity, private investors and leading energy banks resulting in the closing of over $65 million of acquisitions, primarily in Texas’ Eagle Ford and Permian basins.
Previously, Johan was Vice President of M&A and Investor Relations at High Sierra Energy LP, and after its acquisition, at NGL Energy Partners, LLC, where he marshaled over $1 billion of midstream acquisitions of primarily crude oil and waste water logistics businesses across North America.
Johan’s early career in the oil and gas industry included 7 years as an investment banker working as a Vice President in The Royal Bank of Scotland’s energy investment group focused on major midstream transactions and projects. While there, the team successfully advised and managed a portfolio of clients to complete the financing, development and construction of energy infrastructure projects (terminals, gas storage, LNG facilities, pipelines) and diversified midstream companies, acting in diverse roles including M&A financial advisor, lead arranger and syndication agent for clients including private and public energy companies, entrepreneurs and private equity groups.
Johan received his MBA from Tulane University in New Orleans and an Electrical and Electronic Engineering Degree from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
